Mong Kok pharmacy workers convicted for gouging Chinese tourist

Hong Kong | Mar 17, 2017 17:40
Two pharmacy workers were found guilty today of fraud by overcharging a mainland tourist more than 830 times for a popular French menthol drops.
Kowloon City court heard that the woman bought two bottles of Ricqles in November 2015 from a Mong Kok pharmacy.
Leung Ka-po and Tang Tsz-ho had told her the drops cost HK$30 per bottle. But the credit card receipt showed she was charged HK$50,000. She then reported it to the police.
Defense lawyers argued one of the shop assistants was distracted and accidentally punched extra zeroes. The magistrate then questioned why the assistant had not checked the receipt before giving it to the customer.
The magistrate said their testimonies were contradictory and a custodial sentences were the only option.
Sentencing has been adjourned to April 5, pending reports on their backgrounds and from the Young Offender Assessment Panel.-RTHK
