Oil drops to US$56

Benchmark U.S. crude oil lost 70 US cents, or 1.4 percent, on Thursday to US$50.60 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, fell 69 US cents, or 1.2 percent, to US$56.25 a barrel in London. That weighed on energy companies.
Wholesale gasoline dipped 3 US cents to US$1.58 a gallon. Heating oil shed 2 US cents to US$1.77 a gallon. Natural gas jumped 10 US cents, or 3.5 percent, to US$2.99 per 1,000 cubic feet.-AP
