Hong Kong | Nov 15, 2017 14:59
A man was sentenced to 100 hours of Community Service Orders at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today for assaulting a tobacco control inspector and obstructing him exercise of duty, the Department of Health said.
The 33-year-old man assaulted the inspector when he was being issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for a smoking offense in Hung Hom on February 20 this year. Police later arrested and charged him.
A spokesman for the government department urged the public to observe the smoking ban requirements and co-operate with law enforcement officers.
"Threatening or use of violence on enforcement officers is a serious offense and carries serious legal consequences."
The man was also fined HK$2,000 for a smoking offense.
