Handover bid to get back to roots

Central Station | Mar 20, 2017
This year's 20th anniversary celebration of Hong Kong's handover to China will be highly inclusive as it draws the participation of the grassroots and other marginal segments of society.

Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung Kin-chung yesterday gave a preview in his blog of what is in store in this year's handover festivities.

"We would like those from the working class, minorities and the disadvantaged to share our joy too," he said.

The grassroots are to be invited to an array of activities, including large- scale sports events and cultural shows, he said. Home visits to 300,000 families, including 150,000 with elderly, will also be conducted.

Several commemorative "20HK" badge designs were featured in his blog, including a yellow duck and another one highlighted by a splash of colors.

"Together, Progress, Opportunity" is the theme of this year's celebration.
