Family picture doesn't mean Lam out of focusCentral Station | Nov 13, 2017
Looking at it another way, she wasn't close to Xi Jinping, a key figure at the series of meetings in Danang, Vietnam, for the "APEC family picture."
Her place seemed very different from what it had been for predecessor Leung Chun-ying at the APEC meeting in Peru last year, when he made it into the middle of the front row. Nor did she have a chance - unlike CY - to have a separate chat with Xi.
But Lam dismissed any idea that Hong Kong's significance to Beijing has lessened.
She had one-on-one meetings with Xi in April and July, Lam remarked, and she'll be in another when she makes a duty call to the capital in December. "President Xi had a busy schedule," Lam said of sessions in Danang. "He'll have a good chat with me next month in Beijing."
