Rare diamond fails to find best pal

Central Station | Nov 17, 2017
Even in the world of exotic rare diamonds, the market isn't always forever.

The "Raj Pink," pictured, billed as the world's largest fancy intense pink diamond, failed to sell at auction, despite being the highlight of a Sotheby's auction.

The rare 37.3-carat stone, which it hoped would entice bids of up to US$30 million (HK$234 million), was among several lots that failed to find buyers at the sale in Geneva - in a possible sign of a softening in the diamond market.

Sotheby's had high hopes after Christie's sold a 163.41-carat diamond, the "Art of Grisogono," for nearly US$34 million - a world record for a gem of its kind.
