The bizarre event was part of the Polar Bear Paint, a nude spin on the traditional polar bear plunges in which people in swimsuits dive into frigid waters to celebrate the New Year.
Artist Andy Golub, who organizes the Polar Bear Paint, uses body painting as a means to promote human connection through art.
The models were painted in a Times Square studio before stepping out into the cold and taking the spine-tingling plunge into icy waters.
The sight of naked women, displaying their painted bodies amid the cold, prompted Golub to remark that his models "almost brought the sunshine" with them.
