Lottery winnings twice in a week

A man in his 40s from Sydney could hardly believe his luck, twice winning Australia's lottery windfall in just a week and pocketing more than A$2.48 million (HK$14.7 million).

He had every reason to be ecstatic - the odds of winning once are one in 1.845 million.

But in the case of the Bondi resident, he first scooped A$1.02 million last Monday and then bagged another A$1.46 million on Saturday.

"I just thought this is too good to be true," he said when told about his good fortune. The chances of winning twice in such a short period of time must be non-existent. I wish I had some advice to others on how to win the lottery, but I don't."

NSW Lotteries spokesman Matt Hart said he knows of no one else who has won twice in a week. "We've had people win twice in their lifetime, but not twice in a week. It is very unusual and unique."

The biggest recent winner was a man from Victoria state who woke up A$55 million richer in January.
