Suspects who broke into a luxury flat in Cragside Mansion at The Peak yesterday are being hunted.
At about 10am, a 28-year-old foreign domestic helper called police, saying the window of the unit on 23 Barker Road had been forced open and that there were signs the bedroom and cloakroom had been ransacked.
Jewelry and two mobile phones were reported missing. The owner is not in Hong Kong and so the exact worth of losses could not be confirmed.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, police listed the case as burglary and it was handed over to the fifth team of the Central Police District's investigation unit.
A source said the owner hired the helper several days ago to clean the room.
She told police that the room was messy at the time but did not pay much attention to it.
She returned to the apartment yesterday and found the window open.
Cragside Mansion has two buildings, A and B, that are six stories high.
Barker Road is one of the most expensive areas in Hong Kong.
Chief Secretary for Administration Matthew Cheung Kin-chung resides on 15 Barker Road, while the residence for the US Consul General is located on 3 Barker Road. The residence of the commander-in-chief of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison is on 11 Barker Road.
