Lenovo slams lies over Huawei supply ban

Business | Avery Chen and Reuters May 20, 2019
Lenovo (0992) yesterday denied rumors that the world's largest personal computer maker has stopped supplying its products to China's telecom giant Huawei Technologies.

Huawei is a major customer of Lenovo's PC and smartphone business, Lenovo said in its official Weibo account yesterday, while reiterating that it will continue to supply products and services to Huawei, based on law and regulation in the countries and regions in which Lenovo operates.

Lenovo said it will take legal action against rumor mongers and will work through difficulties together with Huawei amid a turbulent time.

Meanwhile, Huawei founder and chief executive Ren Zhengfei said the growth of the tech giant "may slow, but only slightly" due to recent US restrictions, adding that the company's annual revenue growth may undershoot 20 percent.

Ren said Huawei would be "fine" even if US smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm and other American suppliers would not sell chips to the company.
